Based on Hyundai’s Global eLCV platform, the new electric vehicle will join Iveco Group’s electric light commercial vehicle lineup alongside the Daily large van.
The partnership between the two companies began in March 2022 and has mainly been focused on hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles, including the co-development of the eDAILY FCEV and the launch of the E-WAY FCEV city bus. In a nutshell, the agreement signifies an extension of the existing partnership to work on lighter electric commercial vehicles.

What Do We Know About The New IVECO Electric Van?

In short, not a lot. According to the press release, this new IVECO-badged vehicle will be the first export model to use Hyundai’s new Global all-electric Light Commercial Vehicle (eLCV) platform, a dedicated global EV platform made for commercial vehicles ranging from GVW 2.5 tons to 3.5 tons. The platform features a low-floor design for better cargo loading and carrying.
Hyundai will manufacture and supply the IVECO-badged chassis cab for the European market and Iveco Group will locally customise and distribute the complete vehicles exclusively through its sales channels.

When Does The New IVECO Electric Van Launch?

This new vehicle will launch at this year’s IAA Transportation 2024 show, currently planned to be held from September 16-22, 2024, in Hannover, Germany.

What Are The Companies Saying?

Again, not a lot, but there are some further hints from Luca Sra, President, Truck Business Unit, Iveco Group, who said: “The introduction of this new all-electric vehicle is particularly exciting for the European market, where urban and suburban distribution and delivery are crucial missions for logistics operators.” Which confirms in my mind a light/medium van to rival Stellantis’ small/medium electric vans.
Ken Ramírez, Executive Vice President and Head of Global Commercial Vehicle & Hydrogen Business at Hyundai Motor Company, added: “We believe our Global eLCV platform, coupled with Iveco Group’s expertise in the European market, will be a transformative force in the LCV market, contributing to the acceleration of a carbon-neutral future in Europe.”

What Will A New IVECO Electric Van Mean For Van Drivers?

More consumer choice of vans in the UK and Europe - something I feel is rapidly diminishing as more companies platform share and rebadge vehicles. Also, it’s great to see another ground-up electric van on the horizon - hopefully with a decent 200-mile-plus range.
