While it’s not destined for production, Peugeot’s Inception concept car is well worth a look.
The French brand has built Inception as a platform for the design and technology concepts that will shape its vehicles for the next generation. So what could Peugeot’s future hold?
Distinctive body design
The Peugeot Inception's exterior design is all intricate angles and curves, with illuminated badges, mirrored brake callipers, and a generously sized sunroof that merges seamlessly with a large windshield for a panoramic effect.
The grille is a single-pane glass surface, featuring a backlit Peugeot logo and dynamic illuminated lion claws.
Advanced and sustainable interiors
The Peugeot Inception's interior highlights a commitment to sustainability, using recycled materials and repurposed fabric scraps.
A standout feature is the "Hyper Square" steering wheel, which was inspired by motorsports. Built around the fact we’re constantly using our thumbs for phones and other devices, this steering wheel centralises controls for convenient access with your thumbs. The concept also features a smart Halo cluster that provides essential driver information and charging details up-front.
Hypothetical performance figures
The Inception concept houses a potential 100-kilowatt-hour battery, two electric motors, and an estimated 680 horsepower – which could translate to swift acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in under three seconds and a range of around 500 miles. The concept also maps out rapid recharging of up to 93 miles in under five minutes.
The potential of electric cars is only just being tapped into, with recharge times, battery capacity and tech all improving, and prices coming down. Learn more about electric cars here.
Next-gen tech
Watch the full video for a tour of what Inception (and Peugeot’s future cars) could be capable of. One innovative feature is the "Infotec Bar," an exterior screen that displays messages, battery information and even greetings for pedestrians, allowing drivers to communicate with the world outside and indicating Peugeot's emphasis on incorporating interactive technology.
While the Inception itself might not make it to market as a production vehicle, its design cues, technological ideas, and sustainability principles are likely to influence Peugeot's upcoming models. So which of these do you hope to see in the years to come?
