Updated infotainment, increased connectivity and new diesel engines among new features for Land Rover’s Discovery Sport

Following last year's facelift and the introduction of its P300e plug-in hybrid version earlier in the year, the Land Rover Discovery Sport has gained additional new engine options, plus a wide-ranging update of its infotainment tech to the brand’s latest Pivi touch-screen system. This includes the ability to connect two smartphones simultaneously on Bluetooth, full integration for Spotify subscribers and, where specified, an onboard modem with data package to support over-the-air updates to software and apps.
The updated engine range now means all Discovery Sports have the latest technology, including two new diesel options with ‘mild hybrid’ support badged D165 and D200. Whether you opt for one of these, the new 290 horsepower petrol on the Discovery Sport Black or the plug-in hybrid option there is now a powertrain and fuelling option to suit all requirements.

The arrival of Land Rover’s latest Pivi and Pivi Pro touch-screen infotainment is another big update and expands on the existing connected features via an onboard modem and standard data connection for higher grade models. With its own power source the system is ‘always on’, meaning you can interact with the car via your phone app at all times and the latest maps, apps and other software can be updated ‘over the air’ as and when they become available. This means every time you get into your Discovery Sport you can be assured it’ll be running the latest systems, ready to go.
Other new features include the ability to check the cabin air quality via the touch-screen and, if necessary, activate the Cabin Filtration System to filter out particulates, pollen, allergens and even smells – the latter useful if any of the seven occupants you can carry in the car is getting a bit whiffy between rest stops. New driver assistance tech includes Rear Traffic Monitor with rear-facing radar to help predict – and hopefully mitigate – rear-end shunts. The 3D Surround Camera meanwhile takes the stress out of low-speed manoeuvring at town speeds. As well as the new Discovery Sport Black Edition the range has also expanded to include the R-Dynamic S Plus, with 20-inch wheels, privacy glass and a powered tailgate for the five-seater version.
