As the UK’s largest automotive online marketplace, we are proud to now offer e-bikes, which we hope will make it easier for people to buy e-bikes, driving lots more e-bikes on UK roads.

What are e-bikes?
E-bikes are quick, environmentally-friendly and economical way of getting from A-to-B. They are pedal-powered like a conventional bicycle but assisted by an electric motor and rechargeable battery that help out at speeds of up to 15.5mph.
This is often faster than the average person would cycle, especially in hilly terrain, so an e-bike could help you reach your destination a lot quicker than a traditional pedal bicycle. There are lots of different types of e-bikes, including electric hybrid bikes, electric folding bikes, electric mountain bikes and e-cargo bikes. The different categories suit a wide range of activities from commuting to hardcore mountain biking.

Why are e-bikes important?
Following on from the government’s launch of the Gear Change Plan, e-bikes offer a new personal mobility solution that can help the UK to achieve the government ambition of half of all journeys in towns and cities being walked or cycled by 2030 in a more accessible and fair way. Currently, 1 in 2 car journeys are less than 5 miles.
Ian Plummer, Commercial Director at Auto Trader, commented on the launch: “We are focused on helping consumers to make more environmentally friendly vehicle choices so in turn they can make more environmentally friendly journey choices. This might be walking or using a bike instead of using a car for a short journey, or perhaps an e-bike could be used to travel to a train station instead of a car, which are useful for more relevant, longer journeys. “Cars clearly are very important for most people and will undoubtedly remain the primary mobility solution here in the UK, but as we all try to make more positive changes to help combat climate change, other mobility options such as bikes can be a complementary solution. E-bikes, cars, e-cargobikes and vans, are increasingly being used for either shorter journeys or even for different parts of one journey, where appropriate.”
