  • Three-day event at British Motor Museum in Warwickshire
  • Free 45-minute taster sessions for wannabe bikers
  • Runs from August 26th to 28th, 9am to 5.30pm
People who want to learn to ride a motorcycle or scooter will get the chance to try for free over the August Bank Holiday weekend at a three-day event in Warwickshire.
Get On, the motorcycle industry’s free ‘try out’ programme, will be offering 45-minute taster lessons at the British Motor Museum on Saturday 26th, Sunday 27th and Monday 28th August. These will be available between 9am and 5.30pm each day. Sessions can be booked in advance by phoning 02476 408040, or via the website www.geton.co.uk. Alternatively, people can turn up and book on the day (subject to availability). Karen Cole, Director of Safety and Training for the Motorcycle Industry Association, which backs Get On events, says: ‘It’s vital that people get their first taste of riding in a safe and structured environment, where expectations about wearing protective clothing are set, and people understand the value of finding high-quality training.'
At the event, riders will be introduced to the gears, brakes and slow-speed handling by a professional instructor. Motorcycles and protective clothing are all provided, so riders just need to wear long jeans and sturdy shoes.
Riders will also be given advice about wearing protective clothing and how to find an accredited local trainer, should they decide to take their interest further. They will also learn what licences are needed for different motorcycles. Get On is suitable for anyone aged 14 or over (Under 16s must bring an adult or guardian) who wants to learn to ride, from complete beginners to those who are thinking of returning to biking after a break. These sessions at the museum are the final sessions for August, but several more are planned for later in the year. In September, there will be Get On sessions in Farnborough and at Santa Pod (near Wellingborough, in Northamptonshire), while there will also be more than a week's worth of sessions at the Motorcycle Live exhibition in Birmingham during November.
